FAQs

Which style guides do you follow?

Our primary style guide is the Chicago Manual of Style, 17th Edition, but we can adhere to AP style, APA style, or any other specific guidelines you provide.

Do you maintain confidentiality?

Yes. We are strictly committed to keeping client information and documents confidential. We will not share or release clients' manuscripts, intellectual property, or personal information under any circumstances.

How long will it take to receive my finished document/manuscript?

Delivery timeframes depend on our current project load and the length of your project. Please contact us to receive a time estimate. If you have a strict deadline, please let us know right away so we can do our best to accommodate you. We always strive to complete and return projects as quickly as possible, and we're happy to send you weekly updates for longer projects if desired. If we go the extra mile to complete your job by a strict deadline, rush fees may apply.

Do you guarantee a perfect document?

No. While we strive for the greatest accuracy and consistency possible and take great pride in our work, editing services are essentially a well-informed professional opinion and a highly trained second set of eyes. Whenever revisions occur, mistakes and typos can still happen. For the most polished, error-free results, we recommend choosing at least one proofread in addition to our developmental, line, and copy editing services.

In addition, many of our edits—especially on lengthy or technical documents—contain suggestions or questions about the content that you will be required to review and resolve. We recommend a final proofread after author revisions and initial edits. Please visit our Services page for more details on estimated proofread pricing.

How will I know what you've changed?

We complete all significant editing using the Track Changes feature in Microsoft Word so that you can see every change and easily accept or reject it. Additionally, we add comments within the document to raise important issues, offer feedback, or give suggestions. Please visit the Resources page for more information about using Track Changes easily and effectively. If you'd like us to complete your edit using another application, please contact us, and we'll make accommodations when possible.

Do you offer any discounts?

We offer a 10% discount for clients who complete payment in full before editing begins. Otherwise, we require a 30% deposit at the time you sign a contract and the remaining 70% before the project's completion and delivery.

How do I know if your editing style is a good fit for my project?

We know it can be hard to turn a valued manuscript or project over to a new editor, and we want you to feel comfortable. We're happy to discuss our methods, editing style, and experience with any given type of project to ensure what we offer is a good fit for you. If you have a highly technical or lengthy project, we recommend that you hire us to work on a brief portion of the document to ensure that our services meet your needs. If we feel that we can't provide you with the service you deserve, we'll let you know right away.

Why don't you offer free editing samples?

Giving your project the appropriate care, detail, and attention is our primary goal. While free samples can be a great way to draw in potential customers, it's not a great way to showcase our skills since great editing takes time, effort, and a customized approach. However, we do want you to be satisfied. If you have a long project, we recommend that you begin by hiring us for a portion of the project to ensure that our skills are a great fit for your needs.
